1. Mexico's name originated from the Nahuatl language, which was the language spoken by the Aztecs. Mextli was an Aztec god and Mexihco means, "Place where Mextli lives." This placed was referred to as one of the Aztec Pyramids, and it later became Mexico City. (during the Aztec times the city was known as Tenonchtitlan)

2. There are no longer Aztec tribes, but the people of Mexico ARE descendants of the Aztecs, so yes, there are Aztecs left.

1. How did Mexico get its name?

The name Mexico comes from the Aztec name for present day Mexico City, Mexico-Tenochtitlan. Mexico is derived from the name of the Nahua Aztec tribe Mexica.

2. Are there any Aztec left?

There are no pure Aztecs left. Most died of diseases brought by the Spanish such as smallpox. The remaining Aztec people mixed with the Spanish conquistadors and their offspring are known as mestizos. There are still people descended from the Aztecs alive, but there are no pure Aztec people anymore.

2. There are no original Aztecs left since that time period was nearly 500 years ago, so they're dead. The only relation would probably be some Mexicans who consider themselves Aztecs.
